Doug Shelton, CPA (Retired)
Doug, a native Odessan, joined the firm in 1976 after graduating from the University of Texas at Arlington. Doug has been a CPA since 1979. He had received certification from the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners as a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and had been designated a Diplomat of the American Board of Forensic Accounting (DABFA). His experience included all areas of general accounting, individual, partnership and corporate taxation, litigation support, divorce discovery and forensic accounting. Doug had previously served on the Management of Accounting Survey and the Business Valuations, Forensic and Litigation Services Committees of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. After 43 years with the firm, Doug retired on December 31, 2019.
Amanda graduated from Hardin Simmons University in 1997 and has been a CPA since 2000. She joined the firm in 1999 and has been a shareholder of the firm since 2011. Her areas of experience include general accounting, individual, corporate, partnership, and trust taxation planning and preparation.
Jennifer M. Smith, CPA
Jennifer joined the firm in 2006 where she has gained experience in general accounting, as well as in individual, corporate and partnership taxation. She is a 2006 Summa Cum Laude graduate of the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with a BBA in Accountancy and earned her CPA designation in 2013.
Our firm roots go back to 1940 when Urban Childers began a sole proprietor CPA firm in Odessa, Texas. Bill Turner joined Mr. Childers in 1962 and the name was changed to Childers and Turner, CPA's. The firm operated under that name until Mr. Childers' retirement in 1977. In 1978, Burt Ferguson became a partner with Mr. Turner and the firm operated as Turner Ferguson & Company CPA's through 1997. Doug Shelton became a partner in 1982 followed by Nigel Cowan in 1988. Mr. Turner retired in 1998 and at that time Liz Sager was admitted as a shareholder and the name was changed to Turner Ferguson Cowan Shelton & Sager, P.C. Amanda Herr was admitted as a shareholder in 2011. Mr. Cowan retired in 2015 followed by Mr. Ferguson and Mrs. Sager in 2016. In 2017 Jennifer Smith was admitted as a shareholder, the name was changed to Shelton Herr Smith, P.C. and the office was relocated to its current address.
